10 reasons you should teach abroad now!

In our opinion there are so many reasons why travelling abroad to teach is such an amazing opportunity but if you need convincing... keep reading.

At the most basic level it gives you a chance to travel the world whilst earning money - which to us sounds like the perfect recipe already; but, we find that our teachers take so much more away from teaching abroad then they ever thought possible.

There are so many ways to experience teaching abroad depending on the country you are in, the school/centre and the age of the children you work with. It is a career that has so many avenues to go down that it never gets boring! We have thought hard about the best reasons why you should be teaching abroad, and have listed our top 10 below for you.

1. See one country in detail

When you move to teach abroad you are choosing to live in a country that maybe you have never been to before or not seen much of. Living in a new country means you have so much more opportunity to explore and see new areas… think of all those weekends and school holidays you’ll have to go and explore.

2. Experience a new culture

Living and working in a new country gives you the opportunity to completely immerse yourself in the country's culture, from the different customs, working hours and one of the best bits… the food.

3. See a different educational system

Following on from the above point within your job you will have the best opportunity for understanding the country's culture about work and education. You will see what is included in the curriculum and what the expectations of the children are within the classroom. You will first-hand experience working conditions and benefits as well.

4. Travel countries nearby

Not only will you have the chance to explore the country you are working in, but it will be so much easier to explore countries nearby as well. Short haul flights are a lot cheaper and quicker than long haul, so think of all the countries you want to go and see and how easy some of those could become to visit if you lived in a country nearby!

5. Save money

Depending on the country and the school you choose to work in, you can find yourself with a very generous pay check and benefits package. If saving is your goal then pay close attention to salary and cost of living of the country you are looking to work in. On top of that, think of all the money you’ll save from paying for flights and accommodation to travel!

6. Make worldwide friends

It is likely you’ll make some strong friendships whilst working abroad, from the people you live near, the people you work with or social activities you get involved in. When you work abroad, your friends become your family and support system, so they are very important, and lots of people remain lifelong friends even if they move away from one another.

7. Learn a new language

If you are moving to a non-native English-speaking country, what a great opportunity to learn a new language and practice it daily.

8. Experience new activities

There may be different events or activities that you haven’t experienced before in your home country that you could get involved in. For example, Spanish bull fighting, or Japanese sumo wrestling or belly dancing!

9. Personal growth

Moving abroad on your own can be a scary prospect, but it is such an incredible way to be truly independent. While you will of course get support from your recruiter and employment; moving to a new place, making new friends and establishing a new lifestyle can really test your character.

10. Memories that last a lifetime

It is a guarantee that no matter the experience you have whilst teaching abroad, it is one you will hold onto for a lifetime! You will look back when you’re old and grey and be so glad that you went on a big adventure!
